Mr. Anthony “Tony” Porter, Chief Advisor
Selena Nixon, Associate Director
Selena Nixon has been committed to her work in case management, recovery, counseling, family support and program development for over five years, and is currently the Associate Director of the Family Connections, a program of the Rockland Parent-Child Center. As the Associate Director, she directly impacts all aspects of Family Connections, a program that provides an array of family support services for families with an incarcerated parent.
In 2005, while she gained experience working in addiction recovery at Nyack Hospital, she began her journey with Family Connections as a case manager and support group facilitator. She immediately established her presence, and that of Family Connection’s Leigh Schuerholz Mentoring Project, in the Rockland County Correctional Facility, where she continues to work directly with incarcerated and recently released mothers. Under her direction, the program now serves incarcerated fathers as well, and provides case management services, runs parenting groups in the jail, and offers post-release support for men and women.
More recently, Selena spearheaded their new Building Connections for Youth Program, which pairs up adult volunteers with children age 4-17 who have been affected by the incarceration of a parent. This program also provides children with opportunities for cultural experiences that they may not have otherwise.
Selena counts on her husband of 18 years, Edward, for his ongoing support, and is the proud mother of daughters, Selena (14) and Ebony (4).
